About Us

Umoja Tours is a locally owned tour operator in the foothills of Africa’s highest mountain – Mount Kilimanjaro. Our company provides wildlife safaris, mountain treks and cultural excursions. We offer whole travel packages and invite you to stay with us in our community, where you will understand the local daily lifestyle and perhaps even learn some Swahili. Our experienced team happily arranges tailor-made packages for our guests with the hopes that everyone leaves with stories of their fascinating adventures in Tanzania. Each Umoja Tours team member is specialized in their field of mountain trekking, wildlife safaris, day-trips, and the guest house up keep.

“Umoja” means “Unity” and is considered to be the first pillar of a healthy society. We believe in people working hand in hand to create a healthy and respectful society that supports each other. Which is why Umoja Tours directors are working closely with all guides, porters and chefs to maintain an atmosphere in which everyone can enjoy their work, but also for our guests to explore the love Tanzanians share with each other. Part of this Unity is also to give back to the community where we come from – to support Moshi’s youth in achieving their goals and dreams.

More than 10 % of our profits will be used to support Good Hope, a local NGO working in the field of education. Good Hope provides free schooling as well as scholarships for some of Moshi‘s most vulnerable youth who otherwise would not have the chance to go beyond primary school education.

Oliver Canada

Director
Oliver is Umoja Tour’s founder and director, and has been active as a community educator and social worker in Moshi. Over the past ten years she has welcomed and guided guests from all over the world who have been volunteering in various organizations. Her aim is to show and share her passion for Tanzania’s community with Umoja Tour’s guests. She coordinates guides and local employees, and welcomes our guests in her local family home – our local Guest House.

Vicent Urio

Mountain Guide
Vicent is Umoja Tours’ mountain guide. He has been climbing Mount Kilimanjaro for the past 30 years and knows every rock and corner of the mountain. At the age of 20 he began his career as a porter for mountain hikes, and soon continued with training as a trip chef. For over 10 years he has been a certified tour guide and has successfully led countless trips up and down the mountain.
